Eden Park for RWC 2011 - Open Day
Just a reminder that the Eden Park Trust has decided to briefly postpone the planned Open Day on 12 April. The postponement will allow our stadium development team time to more thoroughly investigate all the opportunities and issues that have arisen as they’ve worked through the initial design process. The next Open Day will be rescheduled as soon as practicable and an invitation detailing the agenda and the new date will be sent to you in the coming weeks by the trust and ourselves.
Variance the Event Traffic management Plan
For those of you not aware of this, there is a "Eden Park Traffic Management Plan" that details proposed measures for traffic management for a range of event scenarios. Eden Park Trust board notified us today of a variance to this, that they will be putting in place this weekend for the Blues game.
At the conclusion of the game Eden Park intend to suspend entry into Walters Road from the Cricket Avenuw end and close the road (Walters) at the Sandringham Road end. Corporate guests will be directed from the car park right along and out of Walters Road towards Dominion Road only. No left turn will be available for 25 minutes after the game concludes. The entry of all traffic including Taxis will be prohibited into Walters Road for 25 minutes after the game concludes. The taxi marshalls do not let taxis in directly after the game at present. New barriers will be in place for pedestrians on the Walters/Sandringham intersection. These barriers will form a 'V' (sharp end towards Dominion Road) and direct pedestrians either left or right towards Sandringham Road. The barriers will form a natural track right to the 'Stop/Go' control at the Kingsland station entrance or left to disperse along Sandringham Road towards the west. The personnel controlling this point will stop all traffic for five minute time slots to allow bulk crossing during this critical time (25 minutes post game). So, effectively from entrance 'A' on Walters Road west to the intersection of Sandringham Road there will be no vehicular traffic for 25 minutes after the game. A new sign will be used at the intersection of Sandringham and New North Roads to indicate "Major delays between 9.00pm and 9.30pm, please use alternative route". The key change that will effect the night is that assess/entry to the ASB Stand from Walters Road post game will be delayed for 25 minutes.
Eden Park Trust Board have asked for any feedback both before and after the event, so they can gauge how well this plan was executed etc. so please pass your feedback to me, so I in turn can notify EPTB.
